HCCC Participation in SEMICON Europe 2025

Representing the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre (HCCC) and Hellenic Emerging Technologies Industry Association (HETiA), Mr. Sotiris Bantas and Mr. Manolis Frantzesakis, actively participated in SEMICON Europe 2025, the most significant European event for the microelectronics industry, which served as a hub for strategic announcements and discussions regarding the future of Europe’s semiconductor autonomy.

At the center of the discussions was the new European vision “Towards Chips Act 2.0”, as presented by the European Commission. The Commission’s interventions confirmed that Europe is shifting from a strategy of “urgent capacity reinforcement” to a more mature model of autonomous technological development, focusing on:

  • strengthening the chip design ecosystem,
  • next-generation packaging technologies (advanced packaging),
  • infrastructure for AI Factories and AI Gigafactories,
  • and the development of European IP cores for the next generation of microelectronics.

Major semiconductor manufacturers, such as GlobalFoundries, with a strong presence in Dresden, reaffirmed their commitment to serving as a pillar of the European supply chain, focusing on “essential chips” and FD-SOI platforms that support edge AI, industrial applications, and automotive technologies.

In parallel, the Greek delegation participated in the aCCCess Chips Venture Forum, where leading deep-tech start-ups in AI hardware, photonics, sensing, materials, and advanced manufacturing presented to investors. Among them were companies that have already attracted significant funding from the EIC  – the instrument which is also funding Greece’s ArgoSemi. The forum clearly highlighted Europe’s shift towards an investment model centered on design, IP, and specialized platforms as key drivers for a competitive domestic chip industry.

Our participation in SEMICON Europe also underscored Greece’s strong potential as an emerging activity hub for chips. HETiA and HCCC will continue to support Greek companies and research institutions in their participation in upcoming European calls, IPCEI – AST, and the initiatives of Chips Act 2.0, with the aim of ensuring Greece’s active and sustainable integration into Europe’s semiconductor strategy.

HCCC project is supported by Chips JU and its members, and is co-funded by European Union and the Greek Government via the “Competitiveness” Programme.
