Successful Completion of the HCCC Information Day at NCSR “Demokritos”

Building the Future of Semiconductors in Greece

Last Friday, February 6, 2026, the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre (HCCC) hosted its Information Day at the facilities of NCSR “Demokritos”. The event brought together leaders from industry, research, and policy, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Greece’s role within the European semiconductor value chain.

High-Level Institutional Support

The strategic importance of HCCC as a national instrument aligned with the EU Chips Act was underscored by the presence of key government representatives. We were honored to welcome:

  • Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister of Development
  • Dimitris Terzis, Secretary General for Research and Innovation
  • Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General for Telecommunications and Posts

Their participation highlighted the government’s commitment to translating research excellence into industrial competitiveness and high-level skills for the Greek semiconductor workforce.

Translating Research into IndustryThe Information Day provided a tangible look at the HCCC service catalog, offering SMEs and professionals direct access to free training and technical support. Through industry success stories and service presentations, participants explored practical pathways for collaboration in microelectronics, microsystems, and photonics.

As a hosting and consortium partner, NCSR “Demokritos” is proud to support HCCC by opening its infrastructure to companies, helping ideas move faster from the lab to the market.

Spotlight on Infrastructure: The Cleanroom FacilityA highlight of the event was the guided tour of the Nanotechnology and Microsystems Laboratory (NML). The politicians and industry attendees visited the 300m2 Cleanroom facility, a cornerstone of HCCC’s technical offering.

About the Cleanroom: Operating under ISO 9001 certification, the facility hosts a full silicon semiconductor processing line, unique in Greece, with Class 100 (ISO 5) and Class 1000 (ISO 6) areas. Backed by over 35 years of expertise, it supports multidisciplinary research and prototyping in nanoelectronics, photonics, sensors, and MEMS (including BioMEMS), serving as a vital bridge between academic innovation and industrial production.
